However, because of different reasons attributable to neglect or breaks in sterility, urinary catheterization also becomes a source of nosocomial infection. Indeed, even though the insertion of urinary catheters is considered as a sterile procedure, breaks in the sterility of the catheter system may sometimes bring different types of infections to the patient. In relation, one of the most common forms of nosocomial infection acquired from urinary catheter insertion is CAUTI, which stands for Catheter- Associated Urinary Tract Infection.
