Genetic TechnologyName:Institution: Introduction Food security is one of the most fundamental global concerns, and it has been for the better part of the millennium. Out of the 7 billion people in the world, more than 925 million persons are hungry, where more than 1.4 billion people live on less than $1.25 dollars a day. By the year 2050 the world population is expected to reach 9 billion (Classes.soe.ucsc.edu, 2014). This means that the developing countries will have to double their food production by then. However, they have not mastered the current food demand and it is eminent that if enough is not done by then, there will be a food crisis (Ifad.org, 2014). This is not a situation that is only limited to the developing countries. In the United States of America, hunger remains high several years after the economic and financial crisis. The 2008 financial and economic crisis wrecked havoc on food security. More than 17billion households are food insecure and more than 46.5 million people are poor.
