identify the main legal issues in the question (i.e. what is this question really about?);
construct a relevant argument which answers the question and then to tailor the content of your answer to support your argument;
cover the relevant law, citing the legal principles and legal authorities (i.e. cases and statutes) that are relevant to your argument;
engage in legal analysis;
apply the law to your argument and draw conclusions;
demonstrate your understanding of the topic;
reach an overall conclusion as to the decision a court would be likely to reach;
use spelling, grammar and syntax appropriately; and
structure your answer in an organised and coherent way which is persuasive.
