Task 1: Report

Recruitment, selection and retention procedures (LO 1: 1.1, 1.2,

1.3, 1.4 and M1)

Scenario

You have recently been recruited as a Human Resource Trainee in British Gas having just completed your HND Business course. Your Human Resource Director, William Hodgson wanted to review your skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for the job to help him decide your future pathway within the organisation.

Mr Hodgson has wanted to know your expertise in recruitment, selection and retention procedures to ensure the organisation employs the right people for the job. Thus following a vacant position in the marketing division of the company, he requested you to design and prepare documentation to recruit a new qualified marketing manager. Submit all documents and information in a report.

1.1         Prepare documentation e.g. Job description and Person Specification to select and recruit a new marketing manager

1.2         Within the report, explain employment relevant legal, regulatory and ethical issues and assess the impact it may have on recruiting a marketing manager. For example; you could consider diversity issues, including legal requirements and obligations and business and ethical cases regarding diversity; legislation and requirements relating to employment, workers’ welfare and rights, health and safety issues.

1.3  Also include a detailed description of your role and responsibilities as an HR trainee in the recruitment and selection process for the marketing manager.

1.4   Finally, evaluate your own contribution to the recruitment and selection process of the right candidate by providing a REFLECTIVE STATEMENT of your involvement in the process

Use appropriate report format with an introduction at the beginning, main body with headings and sub-headings and conclusion at the end. A cover page, table of contents page, references list and bibliography would be at highest standard. The report might be written in 1000 – 1200 words
