This question explores the application of the principles of Ergonomics in the working environment. Decide which part of the Company * you are going to consider i.e. cell, an office, a factory or a production facility that you have worked in or have experience / knowledge of.
(a) First of all, explain what you think the role of ergonomics is, the approaches and concerns.
(b) Assess an area of your choice, and identify three areas/issues/concerns that require ergonomic review, explaining why you have done so.
(c) Describe how these potential problems could be avoided or minimized. What justification for implementing your solution(s) would you offer to management and the individual(s) involved. (35 marks in total for a, b and c)
The work you did on Case Study 1 ( flowline planning ) highlighted the concern that workers might overtime lose their motivation or desire to work at an agreeable pace because they are tired or bored of doing the same thing over and over again.
If an IE is developing a work specification, what job design considerations should they try to incorporate and why? Do you agree with the motivational theorists regarding what is generally considered to be driving forces in a workers’ attitude to consistant and steady work effort? (35 marks)
