Introduction
Shanghai is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Due to this fact, the demand for infrastructures such as housing has drastically increased. In addition, it is a global center in terms of trade, shipping and administration. However, due to rising demand for good housing in the city because of increasing population, the resources have become limited (Pomponi, Farr, Piroozfar and Gates 2015). Similarly, people desire the construction of new structures to be completed quickly. Therefore, as the need for sustainable housing is risings, more explorations of new construction materials to meet this demand have emerged. Textile façades represent a major innovation in the contemporary building industry. The materials provide a wide range of advantages such as faster installation, eco-friendliness, flexibility, ability to provide protection from harsh solar and wind, durability and lightweight. Therefore, they can be used well in three types of building such as temporary exhibitions, pavilion/public or tall buildings in Shanghai (Lewin and Goodman 2013).
Properties of Textile Cascade
According to Funke, Gelbrich, Ehrlich and Kroll (2014), textile façade is very important in architectural design because it provides special versatility in construction of buildings. Moreover, they have been designed to provide a unique, novel and exceptional material to meet the needs in the architectural markets (Funke, Gelbrich, Ehrlich and Kroll 2014). The research also indicated that it could be used in more densely populated cities such as Shanghai because it offers a wide range of advantages due to both technical and economic capacities (Monticelli, Zanelli and Campioli 2013). The textile façade has also unique properties such as excellent thermal regulation, low cost of repair, negligible maintenance
