Reflections on Marketing and Society: based on a series of case studies, culminating in a reflective summary document.
Assignment Overview: In this assignment, students will develop a series of case studies which will explore and explain key issues within the module learning programme. These will be reviewed by the tutor at fortnightly intervals, and will build up into a portfolio of evidence, which will be used as the foundation for a reflective final document.
This final document will enable you to demonstrate understanding and application of theoretical concepts to real world situations. It will also provide evidence of research, critical thinking and reflection on how these cases show the impact of marketing onsociety.
Module Learning Outcomes assessed in this Assignment
Apply relevant theory to critically evaluate marketing and consumer practices.
Distinguish between poor versus high ethical standards in marketing practice.
Think critically and develop a keen sense of self-awareness in the marketer’s role within society and the impact on society.
Critically evaluate the complex and dynamic influences that impact marketers and consumers and that engender (ir)responsible consumption practices.
Case Studies
You will be required to build a portfolio of five case studies based on the themes set out in the introductory lecture and explored in weekly sessions. In each case, you will need to identify a theme, provide an example of its application in a current, real-world scenario, and explore and explain its significance and relevance to Marketing and Society. Your tutor will require evidence of the development of case studies at fortnightly intervals.
As the case study portfolio builds up, you will be enabled to provide a critical commentary on the themes which will form the basis of the reflective summary.
