Evaluation of Willow Bend Record Policy
The Willow Bend Record Policy provides guidelines for the retention, storage, and destruction of medical records, according to the federal and state procedures recommended as appropriate (Harkness, 2011). This study compares the Willow Bend Hospital Policy with the Medicare Conditions of Participation and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) conditions.
Comparison with Medicare Conditions of Participation
The Medicare categorizes medical records into claim records, non-claim records, fiscal and administrative records, microform records, and scanned records (Medicare, 2016). The Medicare recommends destruction of paper medical records only after production of its exact electronic imaged copy, which is commensurate to Willow Bend’s Policy.
