Introduction to the Assessment and Format

The assessments for your Reading, Writing and Research Skills module have been designed to:

  • assess your English language reading and writing proficiency at the end of each semester and ultimately at the end of your yearlong Programme
  • provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of academic/study skills learnt throughout your course

You will be required to complete two formative tasks which both relate to the summative assignment. Submission dates can be found on the TLP. Your tutor will provide more details of precise task requirements and organise feedback in class and tutorial times. The two formative tasks are:

1         Write an essay plan for your summative assignment.

2         Submit a sample section of your summative assignment draft (up to 500 words).

The written assessment is in the form of an essay and requires you to write an answer to one of two questions. Your response will involve finding and using secondary sources and addressing the question. The word count is 1000 words. You must choose one of the following titles:

1. Evaluate the prospects for technology in higher education.

2. Discuss some of the current challenges faced by companies involved in international business.
