Overview:
The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with an opportunity to apply their course knowledge of Organization Development Techniques based on the Action Research Model.
Value: 30% of the Overall Course Grade
Directions:
Students will be given an Organization Case. They will have to analyze the Organization Situation based on the steps of the Action Research Model. For every step of the Action research model, groups are expected to apply the case and submit the part as per the schedule below.

Phase 1: Entry and Contracting
In your groups, read the case carefully and try to capture the main concern of the company management and the reason why you were contacted as an OD consultant. Then, prepare the Entry and Contracting Phase and submit by the due date on D2L under Dropbox Part I.
The submission is expected to be 4 to 6 pages double spaced and should include the following:
- Cover Page
- Table of content
- Summary of the assigned Case
- Entry Preparation by following the following guidelines
- 1. If you accepted this engagement, which of the consultant roles are most appropriate? Why?
- 2. What would you want to clarify about your role in your discussion with this potential client?
- 3. How would you plan for the initial meeting?
- 4. How would you build a positive rapport?
- 5. What questions would you ask the client?(include 5 questions at least)
- Gaining commitment (Contracting)
Develop the contract based on the contract template
Phase 2: Diagnosing and Diagnostic Data Collection - Data Collection Plan
Describe your Data Collection Plan in 2-3 double-spaced pages
Define:
- Data Collection Goals
- Targeted Populations and Timeline
- Data Collection Methodology and why?
- What questions or checklist will you use in your observations, survey, focus group or interview based on your choice.
- How will you ensure confidentiality to encourage participation?
Phase 3: Diagnosing and Diagnostic Data Collection - Data Analysis
Based on the data provided, what is your analysis of the data and the diagnosis of the problem? 3-4 double-spaced pages
- Review the Case Study Data
- Analyze the results and create a written feedback report and presentation.
- Provide an overview of the data results to the leadership team and work with them to create a strategy for action planning to address any issues (leadership team including the company President).
Phase 4: Creating an Action Plan
Based on the case, the data collected and your diagnosis, prepare an action plan that would outline the recommended intervention in details. This part is expected to be around 4-6 pages and should include the following points:
- Create vision and mission statements for the intervention
- Identify and justify the level of intervention you chose and why
- Identify actions that need to be taken
- Define Action Planning goals
- Define Action Planning steps
- Create a Project Plan (based on the template provided)
Phase 5: Final Submission
Your final submission will be the full report (20- 25 Pages) including all the previous parts in addition to the final parts of the OD consultation below:
- Implementing Interventions
- Sustaining Change
- Transferring, Evaluating and Separating

Power Point Presentation
Develop a PowerPoint that summarizes all the steps taken in your OD consultation journey so far. The Power Points should be simple, professional and covers all the aspects of your OD consultation.
Presentations will take place within the week of April 1. Four teams will present every day. Teams of the same case will present same class. The presentation will be for a duration of 30 minutes.
