This assignment is designed to make you more literate about ethical scandals that have taken place. You are to form groups of five (5) students. You will research a real-world ethical breach. You will create a set of PowerPoint slides then you present the ethical scandal to the class. This assignment is designed to further your ability to evaluate situations using material taught in class and to recommend and justify courses of action.
The group presentation should cover the following:
o Introduction: Provide a brief overview of the case, including background information about the company, the industry and the key ethical issues involved. (10)
o Research the case: Research the real-world ethical dilemma that you selected from the list provided. We are expecting appropriate depth of research. Presentations that just barely cover the topic should expect low marks. Please be sure to explore outcomes and societal consequences like bankruptcies, financial crises, changes in laws or regulations etc.
During what time period did the events take place?
o Who were the main players and personalities involved? Who were the main stakeholders?
o What happened? What did they do? What did they fail to do?
o What were the costs? Who was harmed? How much money was involved?
o What were the consequences for the business, the environment and society? (Not all of these categories will apply to all cases.)
o What penalties, if any, were imposed upon the people who did wrong?
o Which duties were violated in the case? (10)
o Explore the Corporate Governance issues related to the case. What elements of corporate governance failed? What recommendations would you strengthen? (10)
o Evaluation of Business Actions: Critically evaluate the decisions and actions taken by the business and/or its leaders. Consider the legal, social and cultural contexts in your analysis. (10)
o Recommendation/Conclusion: Present findings in a clear, organized, and persuasive both in writing and orally. (10)
