Assessment Title: Use models, theories and concepts covered in the Module to critically analyse interventions for improving public health in a country of your choice, focusing on a topic from a prescribed list
Assessment Task
Imagine that you are working in Public Health. This could be in the UK, another country or for the World Health Organisation. The Director of Public Health (DPH) has asked you to prepare a 3000-word written report to inform future public health practice to address a topic (chosen from the list in the assessment section on Moodle – make sure you choose from the topics highlighted in yellow).
The table below provides an overview of what should be covered.
- You are advised to focus on a specific country. However, if you choose to take a global perspective, you must use an organising framework (e.g. Low, Middle and High Income countries) to reflect variations.
- Every single point must be supported by a citation and it is expected that sources will be appropriate (e.g. academic textbooks from the module reading list and beyond; journal articles and appropriate websites - The “Possible module sessions to draw on” column gives some indication of where to start to find key information.
- The “structure and organisation” column shows areas that must be included in the report (headings).
- The “Themes and communication of ideas column shows the breakdown of what you should address under each heading”.
- Your report must be clearly communicated, taking a critical analytical approach which explicitly draws on Public Health theory, models, approaches and ethical frameworks covered in the module. The “critical analysis” column of the table contains suggestions for areas that you could draw on to demonstrate that you have met the marking criteria and critically analysed data on causal factors, policy, interventions and ethics. Make sure you read the marking criteria below. Your grade will be based on how well you meet the assessment brief, using the marking criteria in the section below.
