Note(s): Not available to students taking a similar dissertation or project course, for example, in the other discipline of their joint-honours degree programme. This course runs across both semester 1 and semester 2.
The overall learning aim (goal) of this course is to undertake a significant piece of independent research and write it up in the form of a research dissertation.
The specific learning objectives of the course are:
• Develop the ability to plan, organise, and “time-manage” an extended piece of independent research;
• Learn how to formulate an original research question or hypothesis;
• Gain experience in reading, evaluating and synthesising relevant literature appropriate to the chosen research topic;
• Be able to select relevant theories, and concepts and apply them critically to the chosen research topic;
• Collect and analyse data to answer the chosen research question;
