TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module will be delivered through a variety of learning experiences which will include you attending weekly lectures; these are an important part of the programme. The lectures will provide you with the underpinning knowledge of transitional theory, research and relevant legislation. It is an essential requirement that you build on this through reading an extensive range of literature, by carrying out your own research, through discussion with peers and colleagues and engaging in critical analytical reflection of the subject matter. This will develop a range of skills required for your summative assessment and will enhance your professional practice in the work setting.
Your contribution in all aspects of this module is important for both your own learning and that of your fellow students. By engaging in lectures, seminars, workshops, discussions and wider reading you will enhance your learning experience and further develop your personal philosophy.
ASSIGNMENT BRIEF
Formative task- Group presentation
In groups you will develop and conduct a 10-minute presentation relating to a chosen topic relating to transitional experiences of young children. The presentation will require that you structure your presentation and points with clear academic research engagement. You will be provided with a journal article as a starting point for your group work (see table on page 4), however it is expected that you build upon the initial reading with subsequent research engagement.
You will complete an observational study of one child including an in-depth analysis of the transitional process that you have observed. You are required to complete a collection of three observations on one child that you have gained permission to observe (following ethical guidelines). You are expected to critically analyse your findings and consider the impact that transitional processes have had upon the child’s learning and development. This process will also enable you to identify the systems in place and consider the impact of these on the child, the family and the setting, making recommendations for improved practice (3500 words-100%). You will underpin your analysis by drawing on different theoretical frameworks. You need to demonstrate depth of your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter, interpreting and synthesising an extensive range of literature.
Throughout the observational study you are required to follow and implement the Harvard referencing method and adhere to ethical guidelines.
