Overview
The European Union has long been a major source of environmental protection law for EU Member States and its institutions have played a profound influence on the direction of environmental policies
Aim of this module:
-To understand how the EU is organized and the roles of main institutions
-To identify the main sources of the EU environmental law and assess legal basis and justifications
-To appreciate range of EU environmental legislation and the degree of flexibility given to Member States in setting standards
-To assess the extent to which the Member States may set standards
-To evaluate challenges of securing compliance with EU and role of the ECJ
-To appreciate the impact of the EU on National environmental law and role played by the national courts
